We often feel like a month is a long time.
Can you remember when your next holiday, that next meeting with a good friend or your payday is a month away? It feels like ages.
So surely it must be possible to achieve great things in that time also.
Could you figure out how to improve yourself in a month?
Or put it another way, what’s going to happen if you carry on like this?
Maybe going to bed a little earlier or getting up a little earlier, or focusing on one thing for 45 minutes every day will make all the difference in improving yourself in a month.
With the right priorities and schedule, you could set the scene for an amazing transformation.
Or you can live your groundhog day, day after day.
Let’s figure out a few simple steps that might lead to significant changes.
30 days might be all you need to make a massive difference
Maybe your life is going just great, and there is nothing that could change for the better.
Or may you have woken up out of that dream and realise there are at least a few tweaks here and there that might make a massive difference in your life?
- That amazing holiday
- That beach body
- That side hustle and extra income
- That completed course and new qualification
- That new focus and drive to get up and go.
What you do every day is what makes or breaks your chances of reaching your short, medium and life goals.
The compound effect of your daily choices for the better or worse adds up to things happening or not now or later.
Just like a plane that course corrects all the time to reach its destination 1000’s of miles away we can use every day to make the next day better and better.
Kaizen is the Japanese process of 1% improvement every day. So over thirty days, that would mean at least a 30% improvement on when you started.
You might find that you are trapped by your own internal and external gravity.
- Lacking the desire or motivation to change
- Have tried a few things but have not seemed to make any progress.

If the next month was amazing, what would that
- look like?
- Feel like?
What would you be?
- And who with?
Sketching out what a fantastic month might look like is the beginning of designing and improving yourself in a month. A process to create, design, action and then execute your dream month.
Imagine your health, wealth, and happiness was to take a huge step in the right direction.
It seems impossible, right, given that it has taken you 20, 30, 40, or 50+ years to make your life as good as it is today.
What might it look like if you were to make massive progress on your health, wealth, and happiness?
- Losing weight
- Eating better
- Having more energy
- Save more
- Spend less
- Learn how to start investing
- Make time for the things or people you love
- Do something exciting
- Try a new hobby or experience.
Defining what amazing looks like for you will help you identify the goals for this month.
Keeping them clear, concise, and measurable will help track progress and feel a sense of achievement at the end of the month.
It might be a result; it may be a number, a feeling or a new position you are in.
Define what ambitious but realistic success looks like for you.
And one final thing, make sure you write down in detail where you are right now. This will be your baseline of where you are starting from.

Decide what your key actions are going to be
So, having defined what would make this month amazing, how can you make it happen?
The first thing is to keep things as simple as possible.
Keep it simple stupid, or else it will fall apart with too many moving parts and things to track.
What would make a real difference and would be a stretch but achievable if you want some health, wealth and happiness changes?
- Go to bed earlier
- Eat less chocolate sweet things
- Go for a walk every day for 20 mins.
- Track every penny for a month
- Try and cut down on one thing in the month
- Learn more about personal finance and making work optional by listening to a podcast or reading a blog about money every day or two.
- Book that night with your besties
- Try and learn one new simple skill- could be work or hobby related or just for fun.
- Spend a little time each day outside where it’s green.
Keep it as simple as possible. Some of these simple changes might seem like they won’t move the needle much, but it might be these seemingly simple changes that get you moving.
Moving towards what you do want and away from what you don’t.
Start with a calendar for the next 30 days.
Plan out what and when you want things to happen. This way, you can already be shifting them around something you know is coming up.
Time block for when you want to exercise, relaxation or just do nothing.
If your time has been allocated, you won’t feel tension when you are relaxing but feel like you should be doing something else.
Each day tick off what you did and didn’t do.
Don’t fret about what didn’t go well; just plan for it to go better tomorrow.
The whole idea is to make progress, not perfection. Keep going until the end of the month.
Understand what is going to get in your way
Realistic doesn’t mean cutting your dreams in half; it means factoring in the reality of your situation, work, caring commitments, and other factors.
Let’s face it; life is going to get in the way all the time. Over the next 30 days, what is likely to be the obstacles you face, and how can you overcome them.

Planning this out with your significant other or other care support you might have if your single

Plan when you will eat, batch cook or chose your menu ahead of time to save time.
Set a time for relaxing each day.
Lack of support
Find an accountability buddy to keep you on track or, even better, join you.
Finding the time
Sit down with your calendar and block time for all the things that matter this month.
Adjust and reset your calendar accordingly
If you can try and find 3 solutions to each problem, you have a few ways to resolve them.
Measure the gain, not the gap
The Amazon podcast, The Gap and the Gain by Dan Sullivan & Dr Benjamin Hardy, discusses what you should really measure when trying to reach a goal.
Most of us think about where we are now and where we want to get to.
When we achieve our goal, we again measure towards our next goal, i.e. measuring the gap between where we are and where we want to be.
We often neglect to measure the gain—the gains we have experienced from where we were to where we are now.
Even if we haven’t achieved everything we wished we had, we are likely to have achieved a lot
- X number of actions
- X number of outputs
- X amount of money saved
- Increased confidence/knowledge about a particular subject
- Change in mindset
- Number of times you laughed out loud
Whatever might be your measure for success, make sure you also look at this gain.
Look back at your baseline, where you started from and review all that you have done since.
You might be surprised by what you have achieved in just 30 days.
Always measure the gain and count your wins, the gap we can work on in the next thirty days.
Imagine what you could achieve in a year or more with your GAME Plan if you have noticed an improvement in your health, wealth, and happiness.

Your goals might suddenly appear a lot closer than they are right now.

Make sure you do not just measure the gap at the end. Make sure you also measure the gains you have made.
Measure the wins also not just the things that didn’t go to plan or that you didn’t get exactly what you wanted.
It’s highly likely you have made some notable changes and achievements in a 30-day period.
